Quilt In Clarens
18 June to 21 June 2019

"If life throws you scraps, make a quilt"

Project 1 - two days - TAPESTRY WEAVING

Maximum 10 people. Beginners level, but also appropriate for more advanced weavers who wish to explore this highly creative weaving form.

Students will need to purchase their own frame (the same as the frame of my woven example).

Cost of frames:    Small 35 X 25cm R520

      Large 70 X 50cm         R705

Materials - to be supplied by the student - will consist of approx. 400g of chunky yarns in a variety of colours which is pleasing to the student. One colour should be chosen to be the main colour, the other colours will be subsidiary colours.

Variegated, or space-dyed yarns are, in general not appropriate for this project, but novelty, handspun, or textured yarns will be a welcome addition.

Warping cotton will be supplied.

Students to supply their own darning needles, tape measure and scissors.

Students may choose to weave a pictoral or an abstract design.

Basic design principles and possibilities will be discussed as part of the class.

Basic weaving techniques, weaving and outlining shapes both natural and geometric), and applied textures such as plaits loops and fringes will all be covered in the class within the context of the students design idea.
