TECHNIQUES
In this class we are going to focus on the use of the same colour, but in four different shade values.
The patching technique used in this block is relatively simple and and is thefore appropriate for alll skill levels.
Using the patching technique we will make two blocks, quilt them, before moving on to the next technique.
Secondly we will practice the technique of quilt-as-you-go.
Machine equipment:
· Sewing machine
· ¼” pressure foot
· Walking pressure foot
· Glue to make a quilt sandwich
· Medium grey cotton thread
· Universal machine needle – 80/12
· Quilting machine needle
· Hand needle – selfthreading
· Pair of small scissors for nails – sharp
· Black permanent marker with a 2mm bullet tip
· Cutting mat
· Ruller - 12” x 6”
· Rotary cutter with a new blade
Sewing equipment:
o Fabric: ¼m of 4 pieces per colour. Pick two colours
- One dark
- One medium – darkest of the two mediums
- One medium – lightes of the two mediums
- One light
o Thread matching each group
o Batting ¼m
